1.  You have a varied educational background, what was your first taste of art & design when growing up in education, what (and where) first lead you to study art & design?

Living in Jamaica I began drawing at a young age coming home from school drawing anime such as Dragonball-z I loved that show. I did a art in high school but it did not work out because of the teacher and the school I guess I wasn’t inspired by my surrounding. It wasn’t until I left school in 2007 that i found out about Photoshop and began to experiment with it trying out new stuff and teaching myself various techniques. During that time I also did cape art and design in which I got a grade one (1)  for some creative work in also 3d design and sculpting.

2.  You have many accounts on various design and social networking sites, which do you find most useful and why?

Well right now I would say Behance because a lot of creative directors and freelance designers are there, that give great feedback and sometimes tell others about your work :)

3.  Which communities (such as twitter) have you turned to when you need advice or feedback on designs, do you turn to particular people for this feedback? Are there any people you have built up a relationship which you would recommend?

Well I recently been chatting with Kevin Williams on DA where he is known as Methodologi.
He lives here in Jamaica and has given me some good advice, his work is amazing and some time in the future I hope to be as professional as he is in his work.

4.  What has been the worse experience since being a working designer?

I’d have to say working on my Myspace learning to read css and flash. Another experience is dealing with cheap clients I know everyone has one of them.

5.  If you had a closed client book and an indefinite amount of time for vacation or free time, what would you spend this time doing? Is there anything you have a great ambition to do in the future?

Well i would definitely go play football that’s all I did before I started to do graphic design probably tryout for Manchester United. But in the future I hope to have my own studio and be that go to guy that everyone wants to do there graphic and promotional work :)

Which is your favourite piece of Kareem’s work? Do you like his style? What other artists inspire you?

Eye Opening Photography #2

This is my second collection of great photography taken of eyes, either in the category of macro photography or otherwise these photographs so such great precision and subtle detail I have found to be truly inspiring.

These photos show precise quality and give us a different perspective on what quality we can create with a photo when you take time to setup a shot and know what you are doing with some of the high specification digital cameras.

Lip Sync: Great Photographed Lips

For me photography is a growing love, I am taking more time out to sample great photographers through sites such as Flickr and DeviantART. If you can recommend any other please pass them on.

I am finding new styles and categories of quality in photography each time I take a moment out to explore different photography collections. This collection of photographs is specifically of lips, I wanted to concentrate on another part of the human anatomy in much the same way that I had done previously with my post on Eye Opening Photography.

These photos show precise quality and give us a different perspective on what quality we can create with a photo when you take time to setup a shot and know what you are doing with some of the high specification digital cameras. Here in this showcase of photographs all the pictures are of lips and have been taken by many different photographers. (Each picture links to its original location found online.)

Portrait Photography That Takes Your Breath Away

There is no limitation in what can inspire you. Photography is something which can offer great sources of inspiration on many different levels and in many ways and formats, here I am taking portrait and personal photography as my inspiration.

Photography can be approached in various ways and means and some can require expensive equipment, time to setup each shot and others are more low budget and can still offer up great results. Here in this showcase of photographs all the pictures are that of a portrait style taken from many different photographers. (Each picture links to its original location found online.)

My Photography Favourites: Ric Coles

Richard Coles in a Multi-disciplined photographer, programmer and guitarist. Here I am going to look at a few of his great photography skills which are showcased on his Flickr profile. He won’t admit by any means that his work is going to be up in the Tate or M.o.m.a anytime soon. But he has a raw feel to his photos and opens up to show vulnerabilities of his character, with personal photos.

‘Black and White Creep’: Taken on a foggy winter’s evening in October, this photo is the result of a night just going out an exploring the environment around you. Seeing a different side to environments you inhabit everyday but produce a new side of life in the darkness of night.

‘Fog’: Again taken on the same night as the previous photo this was taken in Leverhulme park in Breightmet (Bolton.) The photo’s depiction of the lonely man (Richard himself) shows a vulnerability. The lights above and around him really shine through well around the dark silhouetted figure.

‘Ranch’: The photo itself was taken on a late summer holiday trip away in Tenby Wales, in a small camping site. The photo was then processed in Photoshop and is credited to have used textures by Pink Sherbert photography. The textures used overlaid on top of this original photograph really give it a real old school edge and grain to a great scene out in the dales of Tenby, Wales.

‘Motorway’: Taken with a Nikon D50, this photo was created with an 8 second exposure (with tripod) on a motorway bridge. I love long exposure shots and especially with heavy volumes of traffic, you really get a sense of the hectic rush and speed in all our lives.

‘My Broken Heart’:Originally envisenged as more of a conceptual photography idea, this photo really shows you richards feelings at this time in his life as he got over a difficult time. Bringing out true emotions in this picture really brings you closer to his character.

‘Dawn’ : Taken in the early morning when the birds are singing and the sun is about to rise, the photo captivates the dead of the early morning  just before the morning rush of the next day.
